Ankle cuffs are the bands themselves. Leg irons traditionally means bands joined by a short chain that shortens the stride. Our Oath ankle set replaces the chain with a rigid bar, so the stance is fixed rather than merely shortened; the Anvil irons restrain by sheer mass — a 20 mm wall and roughly 5 kg on the ankles; and the Ballast bands are independent of each other, closed with a screw and carrying a ring each, which makes them a wearing piece rather than a session piece. Chain lets the limbs move within its length, a bar refuses to let the stance change, weight restrains without doing either, and a screw simply does not come off in a hurry.

A fixed-diameter cuff cannot ratchet tighter, but an incorrect fit or awkward movement can still pinch, press nerves or restrict circulation.
